Recent developments in the camp of Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s U-20 side have lifted the spirit and morale of the officials and players in the team.
Following the coming into office of the Dr. K. K. Sarpong-led Board of Directors, the Kotoko U-20 team has seen significant transformation with the registration of players and the appointment of a substantive technical bench headed by former Kotoko player and now coach, Clifford Odame.
According to the leadership, the restructuring of the club is just the beginning of the many good things to happen in the youth team.
Last Friday at the refurbished Kotoko Secretariat in Kumasi, the plans and efforts aimed at building a formidable youth team received a big shot in the arm, when the team was presented with a brand new 30-seater Hyundai County bus by Smart TV as part of the three-year sponsorship deal they have signed with Kotoko.
Led by the Executive Board Chairman, Dr. K. K. Sarpong, the keys to the bus was handed over to managers of the youth side.
What came to mind immediately after the presentation was that, the transportation difficulty the U-20 team had been plagued with in times past has effectively been solved.
In an interview with Kotoko Express after the programme, Coach Clifford Odame and Kotoko Youth Manager, Kwame Kyem praised the Dr. K. K. Sarpong-led Board of Directors, Management and Smart TV for their kind gesture.
“We feel highly motivated by this development and the first thing is to thank Dr. K. K. Sarpong for his excellent leadership and vision for Kumasi Asante Kotoko. Now the team can travel to play trial and competitive matches in the reserve league in comfort and style,” said Coach Odame.
“Dr. Sarpong has demonstrated that he has not only the senior team but also the U-20 team and the entire Kotoko institution at heart. We are most grateful to him” added Youth Manager, Kwame Kyem.
These comments by the U-20 coach and the Youth Manager easily confirmed the relief in the camp of the youth team, and there were gratifying remarks.
Whereas Coach Odame recalled how some of the players now feel a new sense of belonging, Kwame Kyem talked about the team’s readiness to successfully battle opponents in the reserve league.
“I can tell you the players are in high spirits. They have not experienced such a thing before. They feel part of the big Porcupine family with the good leadership of the Board of Directors and Management and all the good developments that have taken place. Recently we received boots and other materials. We have also been assured of training kits. These are very good times and our promise is that we will not disappoint our supporters” said Coach Odame.
“This is great. The bus has come at the right time and I can tell you that we are ready for the reserve league. We will win the competition in the Northern Zone and move to beat whoever will win in the Southern Zone” said the Youth Manager.
The Kotoko U-20 side plays their first game in the competition away on October 6 against their counterparts from Berekum Arsenal.
