If you’ve ever been to a land-based casino you’ve probably heard some Asian person yelling ‘Monkey, Monkey’ at the Blackjack tables. They love to gamble and can sit for hours at any kind of machine or table, hoping to win.
So it’s a bit of a question as to why there aren’t any online casinos in Japan. With the highest domestic gross domestic product in Asia and a huge population of 128 million, Japan seems like a perfect place for them.
However online gambling is currently banned in Japan as online horse racing and lotteries are the only forms of legal gambling in Japan. There are no land-based casinos to play at either so the gaming industry does not bring in much revenue to the country.
However, the Liberal Democratic Party have begun talks with many of the top online gambling operators in the world to possibly change the state of online gambling from non-existent to booming success.
Japan seems to be poised for successful integration of online casinos with a largely wealthy population and a government who, hopefully will remain responsible to their people and the serious problems that can occur in gambling.
The introduction of online casinos may also help boost a flailing tourist industry and tax revenues as evidence in cities like Macau and Singapore. However, if any of these top-notch casino operators successfully manage to integrate online casinos into Japan one thing is certain, they will keep them on their toes!
As a forerunner in technology and entertainment they’ll surely and constantly be looking for the newest and bests gaming software. So keep your eyes peeled, we may see Japan join the online casino industry as early as 2010!
